The lake had the police, the ranger, the chip boat, and you. Everything else was moored.
There are fourteen boats out on the water now, each with a name, cruising at the limit between one bit of open water and the next. They show up on the map as their own quiet colour and tell you who they are when you get close. They round islands rather than driving into them, and if you put a tank through one it burns, slows, goes under, and the harbour puts another out.
The police also stopped gluing themselves to the shore. A boat lying against a bank at a shallow angle cannot steer off it: the turn that would free it drives the bow further in, so now they back off first, which is what anybody would do.
And the hire desk finally looks like it belongs to this game: neon on the letterhead instead of municipal green.
